Book Review: Plain Wisdom, by Cindy Woodsmall and Miriam Flaud

As the cover states, Plain Wisdom is “An invitation into an Amish home and the hearts of two women.” Jointly penned by Cindy Woodsmall, bestselling author of Amish fiction, and her friend, Miriam Flaud, an Old Order Amish woman, Plain Wisdom is an inspirational collection of personal stories and insights. Each chapter begins with a Bible verse, and then Cindy and Miriam share how that verse has proven to be true in their own lives.

This is truly a unique book, highlighting the differences between the everyday experiences of Cindy and Miriam, and yet also pointing out many aspects of life that they have in common, most importantly love for  Jesus and close relationships with family and friends. Some of the themes in the book include enjoying life, in whatever circumstances; obedience to God; trusting God for provision and protection; raising children; the value of working hard and making sacrifices; and making people a priority.

Every page of Plain Wisdom is brimming with hope and encouragement. I highly recommend it.

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from WaterBrook Multnomah. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
